Connor Hellebuyck Discusses The Pressures of Facing Incredibly High Expectations This Season

After winning the Hart and Vezina a year ago, expectations are going up for Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets, and now the star goaltender has addressed that.

Last season was a great one for the Winnipeg Jets, as the team finished as the No. 1 overall seed in the Western Conference, with the team firing on all cylinders throughout the regular season.

However, one of the biggest reasons for their success was superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who would take home not only the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender, but the Hart Trophy as the league MVP.

Hellebuyck Addresses Rising Expectations In Winnipeg

After another failed Stanley Cup Playoffs run, the expectations continue to rise in Winnipeg, but unsurprisingly, the veteran goaltender is keeping a level head and wants to build something special this season with the Jets in an interview with NHL.com.

'For me I'm kind of going into it as just another season, just another season.

We're continuing to build, but I don't want to bring expectations into it. I think expectations kill. I've seen it enough. We're a good team but sometimes you don't win when you expect to win, and you win when you don't expect to win. Really just trying to keep all expectations off the table and go in with a fresh slate.

We're going to build our game the way we ended last year, put our best foot forward and let everything fall into place.'

With some changes to the lineup, the Jets will need to make their adjustments in 2025/26, but with great leadership, chemistry and balance in this lineup, with Hellebuyck leading the way, this could be a fun season in Winnipeg.
