Connor McDavid is arguably the most talented hockey player of all time, and now he's looking to work on one part of his game ahead of a crucial 2025/26 campaign.
Connor McDavid battled injuries again in 2024/25, but unsurprisingly, the Edmonton Oilers captain still managed to put up 100 points, making it his eighth straight season of doing so (not including the shortened 2020 season).
As a result, he's solidified himself as the best player in the National Hockey League and one of the best of all time, but there's one aspect of his game that he wants to continue working on.
In a recent interview, McDavid opened up on where he wants his game to improve, revealing that he needs to shoot more, as he believes he's at his best when he's doing so.
'I have times where I get the puck in good spots and I'm thinking, 'What's the next play?' When I should be thinking, 'I'm going to score here, I'm going to shoot, or I'm going to take this to the net.'That's when my game is at its best.'
Unsurprisingly, McDavid's best regular seasons came in 2021/22 and 2022/23 when he tallied 44 and 64 goals, but after looking to set up his teammates more in recent years, his overall point totals have come down.
That's not to say he shouldn't look to play to his teammates, but sometimes it's best for a star player to get selfish, because when McDavid does that, he's near unstoppable on a nightly basis.
The team open the regular season on October 8th against the rival Calgary Flames, and given the fierce rivalry that exists between them, perhaps McDavid can start the year off with a big goal scoring performance.
