Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl suited up in a beer league in Toronto last night and got completely embarrassed with a 6-2 loss.
Connor McDavid may have given the controversy surrounding his future the boost that it needs.
The Edmonton Oiler captain, available to sign an extension but still under contract through July of 2026, was the subject of headlines last night after he joined a beer league game in the Ontario town of Newmarket.
His teammate, Leon Draisaitl, joined him, and the appearance stirred up instantaneous buzz throughout the entire social media platform.
While it was simply a summer skate, the video posted to X went viral among fans, specifically, fans in the City of Toronto, as they were reminded of the lingering rumors floating around that he would end up donning the Maple Leafs jersey should he ever reach the open market.
Connor McDavid, the ex-Leafs fan hailing from Richmond Hill, hasn't committed beyond the end of this current deal to the city of Edmonton.
While he professed after the Oilers lost in the Stanley Cup Final for the second consecutive year that he wouldn't be jumping anywhere soon, the timing and location of the appearance weren't forgotten by anyone.
NHL insider Chris Johnston recently stated that he would be at the top of Toronto's wish list if McDavid were to enter the open market in the summer of 2026.
As for the beer league game itself? The teammates couldn't conjure up some playoff magic again, as they went down 4-0 after the first period, and ultimately lost in embarrassing fashion by a score of 6-2.
