Two Oilers superstars, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, showed up to play some hockey at a beer league in Toronto and got blown out by a 6-2 score.

There are many methods to prepare for an NHL season, some old-school and others not so much. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl tackled it somewhat atypically Wednesday evening, suiting up for a beer league game in Newmarket, Ontario.

Connor McDavid, a Richmond Hill homeboy, was taking on some locals mere miles from his summer home. Leon Draisaitl, meanwhile, flew in from Edmonton to get some off-season shinny with his captain.

McDavid and Draisaitl did not score and got blown out 6-2

But the fun start to it all shortly evolved into a grim night on the ice. After the first period, their team was already down 4-0. At the buzzer, they'd been thoroughly embarrassed by a 6-2 blowout defeat.

The highlights of the game trended on social media and caused a lot of amusement. Some shared jokingly that it appeared as if Stuart Skinner was in the net.

Others made jokes that Oilers stars were playing in mid-June form, meaning in the context of the team's recent struggles in the Stanley Cup Final.

However, for Edmonton supporters, something is satisfying to see McDavid and Draisaitl staying with it and keeping the competitive fire burning.

Unfortunately, the Newmarket teammates of theirs could not rise to the occasion, similar to what just occurred in the playoffs.

It's another reminder that, unless GM Stan Bowman develops a plan sooner rather than later, the Oilers' Cup window may start closing. Skinner has yet to prove he can get it done when it matters, and there's no trade on the horizon in sight.
