Connor McDavid Extension Given New Number by NHL Insider

Arguably, the biggest storyline all offseason in the NHL has been what the future holds for Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid. McDavid will be entering the final year of his current contract, and there has been plenty of speculation that he could leave Edmonton.

There have also been those who have pushed back against this idea, offering a lot of confusion around his future. And with the Oilers coming off another loss in the Stanley Cup Final, this has sparked rumors in itself.

If McDavid were to enter free agency or be made available on the trade market, there would be no shortage of suitors. But it does seem like the veteran star is likely to stay with the Oilers, even for a short amount of time.

New Contract Number For Connor McDavid

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, there could be a new number coming in a potential extension for McDavid. Friedman is reporting that the Oilers star could get under $16 million in a new deal.

This would be significant if McDavid did receive this number, especially since he is seen as the best player in the league. But many insiders have reported that McDavid could look to take a smaller deal this time around to help the Oilers build a better roster around him.

McDavid wants to win at the highest level, and right now, the Oilers offer him the best chance to make that happen. But everything could change very quickly, and it does feel like opposing teams across the NHL are watching this situation very closely.
