Connor McDavid Issues Subtle Warning Amid Oilers-Golden Knights Series

The Edmonton Oilers will go as far as the superstar duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl takes them, and on Thursday night, the former Hart Memorial Trophy winners got them to the top of Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

McDavid helped set up Draisaitl's game-winning goal in overtime, as the Oilers came away with a 5-4 win -- and a 2-0 series lead.

The Oilers found themselves behind early, with Vegas scoring first on a Victor Olofsson power play goal in the opening period.

But the ever-resilient Edmonton got back up and responded with three consecutive goals, none of which involved McDavid nor Draisaitl. In fact, it wasn't until Draisaitl's overtime winner that the two stars were able to record their first points in the contest. Nevertheless, they delivered when the Oilers needed them the most.

As successful as the Oilers have been in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs thus far, McDavid still believes that his team has yet to reach its ceiling.

"We've won different ways, you gotta do that this time of year,” McDavid told reporters following the game (h/t Edmonton’s official X account). “The group's feeling confident but I think our best is still coming. We're just building & building our game."

Overcoming deficits has been a major theme in the playoffs for the Oilers. After eight games in this postseason, Edmonton has three wins when it trailed after the first period. It also has three wins in games where they were behind after two periods.

The Oilers will look to push Vegas to the brink of elimination in Game 3 on Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
