During last night's Oilers-Knights game, Connor McDavid became the second fastest player in NHL history to record 90 playoff assists, surpassing Mario Lemieux.
The Edmonton Oilers started their second-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights with a dominant 4-2 victory on Tuesday evening, capturing the 1-0 series lead.
The win wasn't just important in the series, but was also a wonderful milestone-filled night for a group of key players.
Connor McDavid cemented his own legacy with a record-breaking performance as the second-fastest player in NHL playoff history to reach 90 assists.
He did it in only his 81st playoff game, being edged out by only the great Wayne Gretzky (63 games), but surpassing Penguins legend Mario Lemieux (97 games) in the milestone.
McDavid also joined an elite club by notching 10 or more assists in four consecutive playoff seasons, along with four other players, and just behind Mark Messier (five seasons), Jari Kurri (six seasons), and Gretzky (seven seasons).
McDavid and Leon Draisaitl also became history-makers as a duo, assisting on the same playoff goal for the 27th time, tying Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov for the second most by any two players in NHL history. Gretzky and Kurri have 37.
Draisaitl also surpassed Gretzky for fifth-most game-tying playoff goals in Oilers history with his ninth, behind only Kurri (10), Tikkanen (11), Anderson (16), and Messier (18).
On the blue line, Evan Bouchard became only the second-quickest defenceman in league history to hit 50 career playoff assists in just 60 games, second only to the great Bobby Orr, who did it in 59 games.
Thursday night's Game 2 of the series will have the Oilers try to gain a commanding advantage.
