Connor McDavid’s Olympic run ended with silver, but fresh concern followed him home.

McDavid played through the gold medal game and logged close to 21 minutes per game, over six games. Canada fell 2-1 to the United States in the final at the 2026 Winter Games.

NHL reporter Kevin McCurdy posted on X that fans noticed McDavid’s fingers taped during the postgame handshake line.

"Couple people Eagle eyed McDavids fingers being taped in the handshake," McCurdy wrote in his X post. "So not only do we lose, but both Connor and Leon have busted hands coming out of the break."

Hockey Canada or the Oilers have not released an official injury report.

Despite Canada's loss, McDavid delivered a historic performance. He won tournament MVP and Best Forward honors after posting 13 points in six games. His 11 assists and 13 total points set a new Olympic record in events featuring NHL players.

McDavid also wore the captain’s “C” in the final two games after Sidney Crosby went down with an injury.

McDavid drove Canada’s offense from start to finish. He created rush chances and drew top defenders every shift. However, he did not register any points in the gold medal game.

Now the focus shifts back to the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid leads the NHL with 96 points in 58 games this season. He remains in the race for the Art Ross and Hart trophies. Meanwhile, the Oilers sit at 28-22-8, second behind Vegas in the division.

With limited games left, Edmonton needs a strong push to secure its playoff spot.

Any hand issue for McDavid would bring difficulties for the Oilers' playoff hopes.

For now, the team and its captain will prepare for the NHL season after an emotional Olympic finish.
