Lauren Kyle, the wife of Oilers star captain Connor McDavid, shared a farewell message on Instagram after the departure of Connor Brown to the Devils.

Following their 2nd straight defeat in the Stanley Cup Final, attention began to turn toward Edmonton Oilers star captain Connor McDavid and his future with the team.

McDavid only has a year left on his current contract and he didn't exactly sound like he was in a rush to sign a new contract during his season-ending media availability session.

The Oilers have already lost multiple players to free agency and trade since then, as both Connor Brown and Corey Perry have joined new clubs, while the team traded away Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins and Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks.

Brown, who signed with the New Jersey Devils, posted a farewell message to Oilers fans on Instagram.

Thank you to the fans for two incredible years and unwavering support. Edmonton will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Ready for a new chapter and excited to be a NJDevil.

Lauren Kyle, who is the wife of McDavid, posted a response to Brown's farewell message:

Oil for life

McDavid's future with the Oilers remains the subject of intense speculation, especially if GM Stan Bowman doesn't do what most fans and analysts think is necessary and upgrade their goaltending situation.

While fellow star Leon Draisaitl agreed to a massive multi-year extension recently, McDavid could be considering the options that he thinks are best that could get him multiple Stanley Cup wins.
