Jamie Benn has been a Dallas Star his entire career, and now, the long-time captain remains with the only team he's ever known with a new contract.
Being drafted way back in the 2007 NHL Draft, Jamie Benn has spent his entire career with the Dallas Stars thus far, taking over from Brenden Morrow as the team captain in the 2013/14 season.
Since then, he's led this team to consistent success, and although they've not won a Stanley Cup in that time, the veteran forward has been nothing but a fantastic ambassador for this team, becoming beloved by the entire Stars fanbase.
Plenty of those fans were worried about the future with Benn being a free agent this summer, but on Thursday, it was announced that the 35-year old was signing a one-year extension with the team.
According to reports, the deal is heavy with bonuses, and at Benn's age, that's likely the best move for the team as he looks to finally lead this team to a Stanley Cup after being loyal throughout his entire career.
The bonus is expected to be a cumulative $3 million, with the requirements to earn said bonuses still unknown.
That's a career that has spanned just under 1,200 regular season games, and after tallying 16 goals and 49 points a year ago, it's clear that he can still be a very effective player for this team, especially with the younger guys stepping up and producing in a big way.
Ultimately, there was never any doubt that Benn was going to return to the Stars, it was just a matter of what a deal looked like, and now we know that it's a one-year deal with plenty of bonuses, and at 35-years of age, it may have been his last contract in the NHL.
