The Dallas Stars are pushing for the Stanley Cup, but in the coming weeks, they may be vulnerable to a major offer sheet for Mavrik Bourque.
The 2025 NHL off-season is upon us, and while the Dallas Stars are just three wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals, this off-season will be critical for them, especially if they end up falling short of their ultimate goal.
According to reports from Chris Johnston and other sources, young Dallas Stars forward Mavrik Bourque is becoming a major offer sheet possibility, with the young 23-year old clearly not getting the chances that many believe he deserves with the Stars.
Bourque got his first extended look at the NHL level this season, playing in 70 games with the Stars and tallying 11 goals and 25 points in that time, but after exploding in the AHL last season for 77 points, many believed that he should be getting a bigger role in the lineup.
This has left the RFA a prime candidate for an offer sheet this off-season, and with Dallas expected to be right against the salary cap, if a team offers him $4-5 million on a deal, there's no way that the Stars would be looking to match.
At this point in time, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames have all seemingly expressed interest in the young standout centre, and given his upside, there seems to be very little risk involved.
Ultimately, Bourque may be a little undersized, but he has the talent to be a genuine middle-six centre at the NHL level, and with the Stars up against the salary cap, expect some teams to push hard for Bourque in the off-season.
