Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn enters 2025-26 chasing history and driving one last Stanley Cup push

The Dallas Stars are preparing for another Stanley Cup chase, but the spotlight is also firmly on captain Jamie Benn as he begins his 17th season in Victory Green.

At 36 years old, Benn is the longest-serving member of the roster and one of the most decorated players in franchise history.

His numbers place him just behind Mike Modano in almost every major offensive category, leaving him on the cusp of reaching milestones that could further cement his legacy in Dallas.

The bigger storyline, however, isn't just about records. It's about how Benn's role will shape the Stars' chances of finally breaking through after three straight trips to the Western Conference Final.

Jamie Benn remains the heartbeat of the Dallas Stars in 2025-26

Last season, Benn posted 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points across 80 games. His production dipped slightly from his "Bennaisance" surge in 2022-23, but he continued to play important minutes in the faceoff circle, winning 56.8% of his draws, and delivered 114 hits.

One of the most dramatic subplots came late in the season as Benn pursued career goal No. 400. Fans watched in frustration as two tallies were overturned or credited to other players, leaving him just shy of the milestone heading into this campaign.

As NHL.com noted, Benn's story is far from finished, and the chase only adds to the anticipation.

New head coach Glen Gulutzan, who coached Benn during his early years in Dallas, could play a pivotal role in shaping how the captain's minutes are managed this season.

Teammates continue to praise Benn's influence off the ice, and one league observer put it best:

"Jamie Benn is still the heartbeat of this team."

Personally, I think Benn's ability to adapt his game while maintaining his leadership is what makes him so valuable.

Even if the numbers aren't as flashy as they once were, his presence guarantees stability, toughness, and passion at the core of the Stars' roster.
