Dallas Stars Sign Kyle Burroughs

According to a team announcement, the Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Kyle Burroughs to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. Burroughs will presumably earn the minimum league salary of $850K, or close to it.

Burroughs, 30, is only one year removed from being a relatively consistent seventh defenseman. Given how their roster is currently constructed, Burroughs could very well be Alexander Petrovic‘s replacement as a veteran right-handed option that the Stars can rely upon in a pinch.

Outside of a five-game run with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2020-21 campaign, Burroughs has spent much of his time as a depth defenseman with the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, and, most recently, with the Los Angeles Kings.

From the 2021-22 campaign to the 2024-25 season, Burroughs appeared in 195 games for those three organizations, scoring five goals and 21 points with a -46 rating, averaging 15:28 of ice time per game. Last season, he was limited to 18 games with the AHL’s Ontario Reign due to injury, scoring one goal and seven points.

Although he doesn’t typically play on the left side of the blue line, Dallas may be one of the better options for Burroughs if he were targeting more NHL playing time. The Stars dealt with a few long-term injuries to Thomas Harley and Lian Bichsel last season, meaning Burroughs may get a look if injury concerns rear their ugly head again.
