Dan Vladar signs two-year deal with Philadelphia Flyers with $3.35M AAV

The Calgary Flames will be looking to fill a hole at the goaltending position, as now-former backup Dan Vladar has signed a multi-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

A fresh opportunity

Vladar has steadily improved since he arrived in Calgary, acquired from the Boston Bruins in 2021 for a third-round pick. Vladar has represented Czechia internationally several times during that span as well, and has played very well for them on the world stage.

With the emergence of Dustin Wolf as the full-time starter for the Flames, the opportunity for Vladar to start more than ~30 games was slim to none. For a player who believes they can be a starter in the NHL, Calgary just isn’t the place to prove that anymore.

Moving to the Flyers makes a ton of sense, as they are an up-and-coming team with rough goaltending depth. He’ll be competing with other young guys in Sam Ersson and Ivan Fedotov, but will likely get the majority of the starts in Philadelphia.

Best of luck

Vladar was a great Flame, and we wish him all the best in Philly.

Now, the Flames will have to address the goaltending position, as they currently have Devin Cooley as their second-stringer. In the event of an injury, the Flames are extremely thin and don’t have any NHL options to call up.
