David Hrenak has reportedly signed with the LA Kings

The fifth-year senior from Slovakia has reportedly signed an ATO with the LA Kings AHL outfit for the rest of the season.

Some good news to pass along here – the LA Kings have reportedly signed goalie prospect David Hrenak. He will join the Reign on an ATO for the remainder of the season, with his NHL contract beginning in the fall.

Hrenak, 23, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL draft, breaking program records for wins, games, and shutouts at St. Cloud State.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound netminder went 16-11-4 with a .914 SV% and a 2.26 GAA to go along with one shutout in 31 games this season.

Sidelined since March 5 after battling pneumonia, Hrenak made the trip to Allentown for the NCAA Division I regional. Unfortunately, he was not able to suit up in the Huskies’ 5-4 defeat to Quinnipiac last Friday, ending his collegiate career.

Matt Villalta has received the lion’s share of games with the Reign this year, earning a .908 SV% and 2.77 GAA in 36 games played. Garret Sparks has made it into 12 games, with Lukas Parik, Jacob Ingham, and John Lethemon each playing in five or fewer contests.

While his playing time for the remainder of the Reign’s season is unclear, Hrenak should have a chance to compete for plenty of time between the pipes next season. This summer, Villalta is set to become an RFA, while Sparks will become a UFA.
