Columbus Blue Jackets sign Isac Lundestrom

Contract: Columbus signs Lundestrom for 2 years
AAV: $1.3 million

Swedish centre Isac Lundestrom has signed a new NHL contract, according to Aaron Portzline. The 25-year-old was a restricted free agent after completing his most recent 1-year, $1.5m AAV deal with the Anaheim Ducks.

Lundestrom appeared in 56 games during the 2024–25 campaign, tallying 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points. He averaged 14:03 of ice time per game, with regular usage in defensive zone faceoffs and on the penalty kill. Known for his speed and responsible two-way play, he provided bottom-six stability and was often matched against opposing middle-six centres.

Career Background and Player Profile

Originally drafted 23rd overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2018, Lundestrom has played in 266 career NHL games, posting 70 points (25 goals, 45 assists) over six seasons. His best statistical year came in 2021–22 when he scored a career-high 16 goals and 29 points across 80 games.

Hailing from Gallivare, Sweden, the 6-foot, 187-pound centre plays a smart, structured game. While his offensive upside has plateaued, his defensive awareness and faceoff ability have made him a reliable presence in bottom-six roles. Prior to his North American career, he played professionally with Luleå HF in the SHL and has also represented Sweden at the IIHF World Junior Championship.

What This Means for the Blue Jackets

For Columbus, signing Lundestom adds centre depth with NHL experience and strong defensive instincts. He projects as a fourth-line pivot who can take tough matchups and kill penalties, but don’t expect him to chip in much offensively. As training camp approaches, Lundestrom will look to carve out a regular spot and re-establish his value on a new deal.
