Denver’s Massimo Rizzo signs ELC with Philadelphia Flyers

Denver Pioneers junior forward Massimo Rizzo is turning pro. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers beginning with the 2024-25 season.

The 22-year-old ends his final season on campus with 10 goals and 34 points in 30 games played. Rizzo missed most of the second half of the 2023-24 season with a lower-body injury but returned for the Frozen Four.

Rizzo will finish his three years at Denver with 107 games played, scoring 39 goals with 87 assists, for a total of 126 points. He averaged 1.18 points per game to go along with a +66 rating.

During his time with the Pioneers, he received several accolades, including being a finalist for the 2021-22 NCHC Rookie of the Year and the 2022-23 NCHC Forward of the Year.

He was also named to the 2022-23 All-NCHC First Team and was a nominee for the 2022-23 Hobey Baker Award. Additionally, he was selected for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 NCHC Academic All-Conference Teams and the 2023-24 NCHC Second Team All-American.

Finally, Rizzo helped Denver win the NCAA National Championship in both the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 seasons.
