Adam Gaudette has signed a two-year deal with the San Jose Sharks for $4 million ($2 million AAV). The 28-year-old with an interesting career has signed a shiny new contract after a big 2024-25 season. Adam Gaudette signs a new contract today that is a reward for his big goal total from 2024-25 as an Ottawa Senator. So, let’s analyze what the signing means and what to expect from the depth centre.

Adam Gaudette Signs a New Contract

Originally, Gaudette is a fifth-round selection who’s played over 300 regular season NHL games to this point. He was a scorer back in college, as his junior and final season at Northeastern saw him post 60 points in 38 contests. However, he’s yet to be able to stick in the NHL. This is a guy who in 2019-20, put up 12 goals and a still career-high 33 points in just 59 games with the Vancouver Canucks. Otherwise, he’s bounced around between the AHL and NHL. That kind of changed in 2023-24.

Focused on perfecting his craft and really defining his game, he went to work with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds. Here, he scored an amazing total of 44 goals, that was good enough for the goal-scoring crown that year. It was a great job of proving what kind of player he could be as a professional. He followed it up with a career-high 19 goals and 81 games played for Ottawa this past season.

What Will He Bring

As Adam Gaudette signs, there are a few things to keep in mind. Remarkably, that was good enough for a 1.4 goals-per-60-minutes. Furthermore, this is why he earned this contract, that would have seemingly priced him out of Ottawa. As a comparable, specific to his goal-scoring proficiency, Brandon Hagel had 35 goals in 2024-25 and only scored 1.2 G/60.

In contrast, one difficulty with Gaudette, is that when he got bumped up the lineup, even if he played well, the scoring rate wasn’t there. Plus he doesn’t kill penalties, and was limited to just 10:25 of average ice time.
