The Detroit Red Wings are set to be without veteran right wing Patrick Kane for a little longer.
Head coach Todd McLellan told reporters on Tuesday that Kane will miss the next two road games against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday and the New York Islanders on Thursday. He won’t travel with the team during the road trip.
The 36-year-old suffered an upper-body injury in last Friday’s 2-1 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kane crashed hard into the boards in the contest. He has not dressed for the Wings since.
Kane did not participate in Tuesday’s practice, though he did take the ice. McLellan said that Kane will be re-evaluated ahead of Saturday's home game against the St. Louis Blues.
Per Coach McLellan, Patrick Kane will not make the trip to Buffalo, will be reevaluated ahead of Saturday’s game at home.

“Patrick won’t make this trip,” McLellan said during Tuesday’s media availability. “He did skate today, which was a good sign. We’ll evaluate him when we get back for the Saturday game.”
The Red Wings face a challenging upcoming stretch, with seven of the next eight games coming on the road.
While Kane has been sidelined, rookie Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has taken his place on the second line right wing alongside Marco Kasper and Alex DeBrincat.
Brandsegg-Nygard was selected 15th overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft. The 20-year-old is yet to record a point through his first six NHL games.
The decision to give Kane a one-year, $3 million contract extension has been a wise investment for the Red Wings.
Kane has registered five points (two goals, three assists) through his first five games of the 2025-26 season.
The 19-year veteran tallied 59 points (21 goals, 38 assists) in 72 regular season games last season.
Detroit currently shares the best record in the Eastern Conference at 5-1-0 with 10 points gained through six games.
The schedule will soon get tougher, and they’ll need No. 88 back to full health.
