Detroit Red Wings Captain Heading to 2026 Olympics

Countries are releasing the hockey rosters for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, from February 6–22, 2026. Team Canada became the first team to announce its roster. This morning, Team USA announced its roster as well, and one Detroit Red Wing made the team: captain Dylan Larkin. The rest of the roster includes forwards Matt Boldy, Kyle Connor, Jack Eichel, Jake Guentzel, Jack Hughes, Clayton Keller, Auston Matthews, J.T. Miller, Brock Nelson, Tage Thompson, Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk, and Vincent Trocheck. Defenseman Brock Faber, Noah Hanifin, Quinn Hughes, Seth Jones, Charlie McAvoy, Jake Sanderson, Jaccob Slavin, Zach Werenski. Goaltenders Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger, and Jeremy Swayman.

The Staff for Team USA includes General Manager Bill Guerin. Assistant General Managers Bill Zito, Tom Fitzgerald, Chris Drury, and Stan Bowman. The head coach is Mike Sullivan and the assistant coaches are John Hynes, David Quinn, and John Tortorella. Five of the top ten USA scorers this season were left off the roster. One of those was was Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat who has 41 points. Larkin, Connor, Werenski, and Hellebuyck are all natives of Michigan.

Dylan Larkin

Larkin represented Team USA at the Four Nations Faceoff last season. In four games he had a goal and an assist. This season in 42 games he has 38 points on 21 goals and 17 assists. He’s a plus-four with six power-play goals and five game-winning goals. Larkin is third on the team in points. He is tied for the team lead in goals, and tied for fifth in assists. He does lead the team in goals.

Other rosters are will be released soon. There are two more Red Wings to watch for, forward Lucas Raymond and defenseman Moritz Seider. Raymond should make Team Sweden, and Seider should make Team Germany. The first Olympic hockey game will be on February 11th when Slovakia faces Finland at 10:40 AM EST. Team USA’s first game is on February 12th at 3:10 PM EST. Assuming Seider makes Germany he and Larkin would face off on February 15th at 3:10 PM EST.

Dylan Larkin Career

The Red Wings drafted Larkin 15th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In one season at Michigan Larkin played in 35 games recording 47 points on 15 goals and 32 assists; he was a +18. Larkin played in five games with Team USA in the WJC he had seven points on five goals and two assists; he was a plus-seven.

In 11 seasons with the Red Wings, the 29-year old center has played in 776 games recording 614 points on 263 goals and 351 assists. He’s -99 with 78 power-play goals, eight shorthanded goals, and 36 game-winning goals. Larkin is a three-time All-Star, he finished fifth in the Calder Memorial Trophy in his rookie season he also finished 20th in the Selke Trophy voting back in 2018-19. He has only played in five career Stanley Cup Playoff games which came back in 2015-16 his rookie season. He scored one goal and finished with a minus-two.
