Detroit Red Wings Cut 21 from Preseason Roster

The Detroit Red Wings picked up a 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres last night in their third preseason game. They will wrap up their preseason schedule tomorrow against the Columbus Blue Jackets at home with puck drop set for 7:00 PM EST.

The Red Wings today announced they’ve assigned forwards Ondrej Becher, Cameron Butler, Noah Dower Nilsson, Sheldon Dries, Dylan James, Jesse Kiiskinen, John Leonard, Sutter Muzzatti, Theo Rochette, Dominik Shine and Wilmer Skoog, defensemen Ronnie Attara, Jacob Bryson, Shai Buium and William Lagesson, and goaltenders Trey Augustine and Michal Postava to their AHL affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins.

They also announced they’ve released forward Kienan Draper and defensemen Justice Christensen, Alex Kannok Leipert and Jacob Truscott from their PTOs, returning them to Grand Rapids. 

Detroit currently has 28 players on its preseason roster and they need to get that to 23 by Monday. Tomorrow’s game will answer some questions but they undoubtedly have some tough decisions to make this weekend. 

The Red Wings will open the season one week from today when they face the New York Rangers in an original six matchup. Puck drop is set for 6:30 PM EST.
