Rob Gray-Imagn Images

The Detroit Red Wings in the 2024-25 season missed the playoffs by five points extending their playoff drought to nine consecutive seasons. The Red Wings were led by Lucas Raymond who had 80 points on 27 goals and 53 assists. He led the team in points and assists. Alex DeBrincat led the team in goals. This season the Red Wings used five different goalies. Cam Talbot was the primary goalie as he made 47 appearances going 21-19-5 with a 2.93 goals-against average, a .900 save percentage, and two shutouts. They also used Alex Lyon, Ville Husso, Petr Mrazek, and Sebastian Cossa. Detroit traded Husso to the Anaheim Ducks and then later acquired Petr Mrazek from the Chicago Blackhawks. Their top goalie prospect in Cossa made his NHL debut picking up a win as he came in, in relief and stopped two of the 14 shots he faced.

According to Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff has reported that the Red Wings as well as the Utah Mammoth are in the goalie market this offseason. The Detroit Red Wings will have Mrazek, and Talbot under contract for the 2025-26 season. Lyon is a free agent and Cossa is expected to start the season in Grand Rapids of the AHL. So what exactly are they looking to do? Could one of Talbot or Mrazek be traded? Could they sign a goalie and trade one as they await Cossa taking over the net? It remains to be the scene the ultimate goal for the Red Wings in net. The Red Wings have had a goalie carousel since the retirement of Jimmy Howard. So who could be available for the Detroit Red Wings this offseason.

John Gibson

Gibson’s name has been floated around for trades for quite a while. This may be the offseason he gets moved after Lukas Dostal seemingly took over the net in Anaheim. Gibson went 11-11-2 this season with a 2.77 goals-against average, and a .911 save percentage.

Jordan Binnington

Binnington’s name started circulating following the Four Nations Faceoff. St. Louis then went on a winning streak and the Blues held Binnington ultimately making the playoffs. Binnington went 28-22-5 with a 2.69 goals-against average, a .900 save percentage, and three shutouts.

Allen would be a nice option for the Red Wings on a short-term deal. He went 13-16-1 with a 2.66 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and four shutouts for the Devils.

Alexander Georgiev

Georgiev was a name i wanted the Red Wings to trade for in 2022 before he was moved to Colorado. This season he played in 49 games between Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. He went 15-26-4 with an .875 save percentage, and a 3.71 goals-against average.

Detroit Red Wings Goalie Wrap-Up

As usual Steve Yzerman has people guessing what the plan is between the pipes for the 2025-26 season. There are good options available whether he wanted to go with a backup or a future 1A-1B situation. The plan likely is Talbot stays and Mrazek is a potential to be moved but it’ll be an interesting offseason for sure for the Detroit Red Wings with the main goal being bring back Patrick Kane and try to get another top six scorer.
