The New Jersey Devils will be without one of their rookie forwards for at least a few games.

On Thursday, head coach Sheldon Keefe revealed that Arseny Gritsyuk will not play in the remainder of New Jersey’s current road trip, nor will he play in the Devils’ home game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Gritsyuk is currently considered week-to-week until a clearer timeline can be established.

Gritsyuk, 25, suffered his injury during New Jersey’s 6-4 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The nature of the injury is currently undisclosed, but he was scheduled to undergo imaging on Wednesday.

The Russian national is in his first NHL season after playing multiple years in the KHL. Through 66 games, Gritsyuk has 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points.

Initially drafted by the Devils in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Gritsyuk continued to play in the Russian minor leagues before debuting for Avangard Omsk of the KHL in the 2020-21 season, putting up a goal and an assist for two points in 12 games. He also went scoreless over three postseason games as Omsk won the Gagarin Cup as KHL champions that season.

Gritsyuk played the next two seasons for Omsk, compiling 31 goals and 37 assists for 68 points over 105 games before joining SKA Saint Petersburg ahead of the 2023-24 season. Over two seasons with Saint Petersburg, he totaled 36 goals and 46 assists for 82 points over 99 games.

New Jersey signed Gritsyuk to a one-year, $925,000 contract this past offseason, and is set to become a restricted free agent after this season.

The Devils, who currently sit in second last place in the Metropolitan Division with 74 points through 70 games, will visit the Nashville Predators on Thursday before finishing up their five-game road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
