After the Devils' elimination from the postseason, Nico Hischier represented Switzerland in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, but has since gotten hurt.
The New Jersey Devils were knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the divisional foe Carolina Hurricanes in a quick 5-game series, a disappointing finish for a team that was expected to take the next step under coach Sheldon Keefe.
One big reason why the Devils couldn't advance past the Hurricanes was the injury to Jack Hughes, which had kept him out of the last several regular season games before the start of the playoffs.
Speaking of injuries, Devils captain Nico Hischier is now dealing with one of his own after he chose to represent Switzerland in the IIHF World Championships.
But the good news is that his injury isn't considered to have any long-term effects that could potentially hamper his availability for New Jersey's training camp in the fall, via team reporter Amanda Stein.
Swiss hockey has announced that Nico Hischier is out for the remainder of the 2025 Worlds. He has a muscular injury, but can confirm on the NJDevils side there are no long-term concerns and this is just precautionary.
The Swiss national team also announced that Hischier will remain with them through the end of the World Championships while undergoing the necessary treatment.
Hischier had 69 points (35G, 34A) in 75 games this season, his highest point total since reaching a career-best 80 points in 2022-23 (31G, 49A).
He was New Jersey's leading goal scorer with 4 in the postseason series loss against the Hurricanes.
