After making the postseason this year, the New Jersey Devils are looking for new ways to contend going forward. Injuries took hold of the Devils' core group this past season, and it limited them in terms of overall production.
But the Devils' front office understands that the team may need more talent to go after another Stanley Cup title. This could see the organization be very active this offseason, and potentially make some drastic moves to the roster.
The Devils have a solid core, but the team could use some extra firepower to get over the hump. And it seems that New Jersey may have already started considering some wild moves.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Devils have been dangling star defender Dougie Hamilton in trade talks. Friedman said that the Devils have been speaking with a few teams about a possible trade.

Hamilton still has three more seasons left on his contract, and he is scheduled to make $9 million each year. The Devils could be looking to get off his contract and could likely net a strong return for his services.
Last season, Hamilton scored nine goals and 31 assists over 64 games. His production has continued to dip, and it may be time for New Jersey to look elsewhere on defense.
While his impact has gone down, Hamilton could still be productive in the correct system. Contending teams could use his services, and the Devils may be able to net some assets for the future.
It remains to be seen if the Devils will ultimately move Hamilton, but the news around the league is that he could be had for the right price.
