A key blueliner in the Garden State is going to miss a couple of games.

When speaking to the media, New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe announced that defenseman Dougie Hamilton will not be playing in the team’s matchup on Saturday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Keefe also stated that Hamilton is expected to be out of action for at least a week.

Hamilton had exited Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens with the undisclosed ailment. He left the game in the second period after registering just 10:09 of ice time in the team’s 4-3 victory, marking the Devils’ second victory in three contests.

Hamilton also missed the team’s practice on Friday.

If Keefe’s prognosis holds true, not only will the 32-year-old miss Saturday’s game, but he’ll also miss another key Metropolitan Division matchup with the New York Islanders on Monday, before New Jersey visits the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. Hamilton could also miss next Saturday’s marquee matchup with the Washington Capitals, depending on the severity of the injury.

Hamilton has played in each of the team’s first 14 games of the 2025-26 regular season, having scored four goals and three assists for seven points. With the Toronto native out of the lineup, the second power-play unit has been adjusted, with defender Simon Nemec hopping on PP2.

Injury woes have plagued Hamilton throughout his career. Last season, a lower-body injury knocked him out of action for the final month of the regular season, though he was able to return in time for the playoffs. He notched two assists in the team’s five-game series against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Devils and Penguins are set to drop the puck at 12:30 p.m. ET.
