Devils’ Jack Hughes Undergoes Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

The New Jersey Devils have finally provided an update on their star forward, Jack Hughes . In Sunday night’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights, Hughes suffered an upper-body injury after colliding with the boards. On Wednesday, the organization announced that he underwent a successful shoulder surgery. As a result, Hughes will be out for the remainder of the season.

While this is not the outcome that fans had hoped for, Hughes being placed on LTIR means that there will be an additional $8 million at their disposal prior to the trade deadline. This will impact upcoming roster moves, as general manager Tom Fitzgerald will most likely search for a temporary rental in Hughes’ absence.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Hughes has been in this situation. He suffered a shoulder injury last season, but opted to wait until the Devils were eliminated from playoff contention before moving forward with surgery. But after consulting with family, representatives, and the Devils’ medical staff, it was decided that surgery was the best option this season.

Currently, Hughes leads the Devils with 27 goals and 70 points, and his absence will be heavily felt as the team fights to remain in a playoff spot. His offensive production and playmaking abilities have been an instrumental part of the Devils’ success this season.

On the bright side, it appears that Hughes will make a complete recovery in time for 2025 Devils Training Camp. The organization is in a precarious situation for the remainder of the season, but hopefully things will start to look up after the trade deadline.
