On Saturday morning, the New Jersey Devils announced a few roster moves following the NHL trade deadline. Defenseman Seamus Casey was re-assigned to the American Hockey League (AHL). The team also recalled Daniel Sprong from the Utica Comets.
Casey has played just ten games for the Devils this season, with four goals and one assist. While his offensive contributions have benefitted the team, New Jersey is looking to refine their defensive prospects, especially after re-signing Johnathan Kovacevic to a five-year deal.
As it stands, Casey is eligible to remain on the Comets’ roster for the rest of the regular season, along with the playoffs. He has 15 points in 22 games with Utica this season and was selected to be part of the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic.

have recalled F Daniel Sprong.
On Friday, the Devils acquired Sprong from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 Draft. The 27-year-old has 25 points across 19 AHL games, including three power-play goals and four game-winning goals.
The right wing can hopefully add to the Devils’ bottom-six scoring problem, which has been a prominent issue all season. Sprong is known for his shooting, creative playmaking, and skating abilities. General manager Tom Fitzgerald seemed pleased with his actions at the trade deadline and told media that Sprong was “a low-risk move with a high return.”
The Devils look to get back on track with two Metropolitan matchups on hand. On Sunday afternoon, they will face the Philadelphia Flyers and then return to the Prudential Center to play the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
