Devils re-sign defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to two-year, $2.25M deal

The New Jersey Devils wanted to make sure they didn't spend an asset on a rental.

New Jersey confirmed Friday it re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to a two-year contract worth $2.25 million. The 24-year-old is set to earn $1.05 million for 2021-22 and $1.2 million for the following season.

The Devils acquired Siegenthaler from the Washington Capitals in April for the Arizona Coyotes' conditional third-round pick in this year's draft that was acquired in the December 2019 Taylor Hall trade. Siegenthaler skated only six games with the Devils following that transaction and missed time while in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol.

Thus far, Siegenthaler has appeared in 105 career regular-season contests across three NHL seasons and tallied two goals and 11 assists for 13 points with a plus-eight rating.

The rebuilding Devils finished the 2020-21 campaign seventh in the NHL East division standings with 45 points and currently hold the fourth pick in the upcoming draft.
