The New Jersey Devils and general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced on Friday that the team has signed four players to professional tryouts (PTOs) including forwards Kevin Rooney and Luke Glendening as well as goaltenders Georgi Romanov and Adam Scheel.
Rooney, 32, is a former member of the organization, as he broke into the NHL as a member of the Devils during the 2016-2017 campaign. The Massachusetts native has appeared in 330 regular season games in his career, tallying 32 goals and 28 assists for a total of 60 points. Rooney has also played for the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames.
Glendening, a 36-year-old native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a longtime bottom six forward who spent eight seasons as a member of the Detroit Red Wings before moving on to stints with the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning. In his 864 career contests, he’s racked up 83 goals and assists alike for 166 points.
Romanov was a member of the San Jose Sharks organization for both of the past two years. In his 10 career NHL appearances, he owns a .888 save percentage and a 3.53 goals against average. While suiting up for the AHL San Jose Barracuda, he’s posted a .904 save percentage and a 3.12 goals against average.
Scheel is a 26-year-old with no NHL experience, but he comes from the Colorado Avalanche organization, where he put up a 10-2-2 record and a 2.62 goals against average as a member of the AHL Colorado Eagles. The University of North Dakota alum has 101 total games worth of experience at the AHL level.
The four players will report to Devils training camp when it opens on September 17 as they look to earn contracts for the 2025-2026 season.
New Jersey is looking to build on last year when the club finished 42-33-7, good for third place in the Metropolitan Division, before they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
