Beckett Sennecke’s pockets will be a little bit lighter on Tuesday, after the NHL announced that it has fined the Anaheim Ducks right winger $2,000 for embellishment.

The play where the incident occurred came when he received a glove to the face from Montréal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson, while exiting the zone at the 4:34 mark of the third period in Anaheim’s eventual 4-3 win at the Bell Centre on Sunday.

Anderson received a holding minor penalty on the play, while Sennecke was assessed a minor for embellishment, before NHL Hockey Operations levied a further fine on Tuesday morning.

Per Rule 64 in the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, fines are handed out on a gradual scale based on the number of offenses the player commits. A player will receive a warning on their first citation, followed by fines of $2,000, $3,000, and $4,000, and then every subsequent fine will be $5,000. The player’s respective head coach will also begin receiving fines on the fifth citation onwards.

Sennecke had been issued a Warning from the NHL following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations against the St. Louis Blues on March 8, making the play against Montreal his second and first fineable citation.

Coming to the tail end of his first NHL regular season, Sennecke has netted 21 goals and 33 assists for 54 points in 70 games with the Ducks as a 19 and 20-year-old, following a standout junior hockey career with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. In his final junior season, the Toronto, Ont. native posted 36 goals and 50 assists for 86 points in 56 games.

Currently sitting atop the Pacific Division with 82 points heading into the final 12 games of the season, the Ducks will look to continue their form, with hopes of clinching a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since losing in the first round in 2018.
