The Anaheim Ducks traded star Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday morning. Zegras had been in trade talks for some time, but many expected the team to hold onto him a little longer.
In return for Zegras, Anaheim landed center Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second-round draft selection and a 2026 fourth-round draft selection. With new head coach Joel Quenneville in town, the likelihood of Zegras being moved was much higher.
Following the announcement of the deal, Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek released a statement on the trade.
“I want to thank Trevor for his contributions and efforts over the last six years,” said Verbeek. “While this was a difficult trade to make, we have and will continue to look at retooling our roster over the next couple of months, and this transaction is part of that process. We wish Trevor the best of luck with the Flyers.”

Verbeek has been known for his brash trade moves, and this was exactly that. Anaheim had grown tired of waiting for Zegras to fully grow into the player he could be, so they ultimately moved on.
The young star did improve on both sides of the ice this past season, but he has seen inconsistency over the years. Last season, he scored 12 goals and 20 assists in 57 games for the Ducks.
This trade is seen as a win-win for both sides. Anaheim gets to start over, with some extra draft capital to use, and Philadelphia can add a highly talented player to the rebuild.
All in all, it was a strong deal, and both teams can come away fairly happy with it.
