According to a team announcement, the Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Ian Moore to a two-year contract extension. PuckPedia provided the contract details, sharing that it would be a two-year, $2.3MM ($1.15MM AAV) agreement between the Ducks and Moore.

Moore, 24, recently finished his first full season with Anaheim. He first joined the organization back in the 2020 NHL Draft when he was selected with the 67th overall pick. The former captain at Harvard, Moore, didn’t make the jump to the professional ranks until the 2024-25 campaign.

He played fairly well down the stretch, registering one goal and five points in nine games with a -1 rating for the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and one assist in three games for the Ducks. This past season, Anaheim gave him plenty of opportunities at the NHL level. The Salt Lake City, UT native finished four goals and 12 points in 67 games with a -14 rating, averaging 13:40 of ice time per game. Additionally, Moore tallied one goal and 10 postseason games for the Ducks in the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Despite playing in the NCAA for several years after he was drafted, there is a strong indication that Moore still has some maturing to do. He had strong possession numbers throughout the 2025-26 season, but his 88.0% on-ice SV% and 38.7% on-ice Goals% at even strength left plenty to be desired.

Regardless, the Ducks need as much defensive depth as they can get their hands on for next season. In all likelihood, Anaheim will lose veteran defensemen John Carlson, Jacob Trouba, and Radko Gudas next week, leaving them with four defensemen signed through next season. Moore isn’t expected to replace any of them directly, but he could be relied upon more next season.
