The Anaheim Ducks have agreed to terms on a contract with their second first-round pick of the 2026 NHL Draft. According to a team announcement, the Ducks have signed winger Marcus Nordmark to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Anaheim returned to the first round of the draft after trading with the St. Louis Blues. They also made another first-round pick following a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights, although the Montreal Canadiens originally owned the pick. The Ducks used that second pick to select Nordmark 28th overall.
Nordmark, 18, has spent the last few years in the SHL’s Djurgårdens IF program. He played in a few professional games with Djurgårdens IF last season, tallying one assist in eight games. Still, he spent much of the year with their U20 Nationell team, scoring an impressive 14 goals and 38 points in 25 games with a +24 rating.
On the international stage, Nordmark, a native of Stockholm, of course suited up for Team Sweden. At the U18 IIHF World Junior Championship, Nordmark scored three goals and four points in six games. Assuming his development continues on the same trendline, he’ll likely play for Team Sweden’s U20 team this winter to help the country repeat as tournament champions. Overall, Nordmark registered 19 goals and 37 points in 25 games in all U18 international competitions last season.
He doesn’t project as a player that will be able to carry his own line at the NHL level, though that isn’t an uncommon fate for most wingers. Still, Nordmark can score from nearly any location on the ice and regularly switches his shooting leg depending on his angle to the net. Given the playmakers that the Ducks already have on the roster, Nordmark could become a quality complement in a few years.
