The Maine Mariners see another piece from last season’s roster signing overseas, as defenseman Andrew Neilsen is signing with the Coventry Blaze of the EIHL. Nielsen, this past season, appeared in 37 games, recording 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists. He was a minus-eight with five power-play goals. In seven playoff games, he had two assists and was a minus-three.

The Maple Leafs drafted Nielsen 65th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He never got past the AHL, appearing in 258 games with seven different teams. He had 85 points on 21 goals and 64 assists. Nielsen was a plus-one with six power-play goals and four game-winning goals. In 19 Calder Cup Playoff games, he had five points on a goal and four assists. He was a -12 with a power-play goal and a game-winning goal.

In four ECHL seasons with four different teams, he appeared in 163 games, recording 117 points on 29 goals and 88 assists. He was a -34 with 14 power-play goals. In 18 Kelly Cup Playoff games, he had eight points on two goals and six assists. He was a minus-eight with a power-play goal.

Between all of that, he played in the ICEHL in 2020-21 and split time in Norway and Slovakia in 2023-24, along with time in Sweden in 2024-25. He went on to appear in 51 games over those stints, recording 19 points on three goals and 16 assists; he was a minus-one.
