The Atlanta Gladiators added another option in net Monday, signing goaltender Colby Muise to a Standard Player Contract (SPC).

Muise, 27, joins Atlanta after splitting time this season between the SPHL and ECHL. He played 17 games with the Fayetteville Marksmen, posting an 8-8-1 record with a 2.44 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage, and one shutout. He also appeared in eight games with the Orlando Solar Bears, where he went 3-2-0 with a 2.38 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage, and one shutout.

Strong Track Record in the SPHL

If you’re wondering what he brings, last season answers that pretty quickly. With the Peoria Rivermen, Muise didn’t just have a good year; he controlled it. He went 23-3-4, led the league with a 1.68 goals-against average, and posted a .933 save percentage. Add in eight shutouts, and it’s no surprise he walked away with SPHL Goaltender of the Year honors and a First All-Star Team selection.

Path to the Pros

Muise turned pro after finishing his career at Marian University in 2023, where he handled consistent minutes across four seasons. His 2020–21 campaign stands out, posting a 2.31 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage, and he followed that up with a 25-game workload the next year before closing out his college career with 23 appearances in 2022–23.

Even before that, the numbers were there. He posted a .934 save percentage with the North York Rangers (OJHL) and a .916 mark with the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL), building a foundation that has carried through each level.

Since turning pro, Muise has taken the long route—and that matters. He spent time overseas in France, then worked his way back through the SPHL and into ECHL opportunities. Last season, he appeared in nine games with the Adirondack Thunder, going 1-6-0 with a 3.71 goals-against average and an .867 save percentage. It wasn’t perfect, but it was part of the process.

Muise gives Atlanta another goaltender who has proven he can handle volume and stay consistent. His recent ECHL numbers show he can compete right now, and his SPHL performance shows he can take over games when needed. With the postseason approaching, that kind of depth matters.

What’s Next

Atlanta doesn’t get much time to settle in. The Atlanta Gladiators head right back on the road Thursday, April 2, for a 7:05 PM matchup against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. From there, the schedule flips fast. Greenville returns the favor Friday night for a 7:10 PM puck drop at Gas South Arena in a back-to-back set that could carry some edge. Saturday doesn’t slow things down either, as the Savannah Ghost Pirates come to town for another 7:10 PM start during the “Hockey is for Everyone” night.
