The Fort Wayne Komets have named Alex Aleardi as the team’s 42nd captain in franchise history. Aleardi replaces Jack Dugan, who spent two seasons as the Komets captain before heading overseas to Germany this offseason. He’s worn a letter in his last two seasons in the ECHL. In nine games this season, he has four goals and four assists for eight points.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native has spent seven seasons in the ECHL with the Evansville Icemen, Florida Everblades, Rapid City Rush, and Fort Wayne Komets. In 324 career games, he’s put up 141 goals and 158 assists for 291 points. He has 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points in 41 Kelly Cup Playoff games, including winning a Kelly Cup Championship with the Everblades in 2022.

Aleardi, 33, has also spent parts of six seasons playing overseas. He spent two seasons in Sweden, putting up 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points in 76 games. In 2017-18, he put up three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 13 games with EC Salzburg (EBEL). The majority of his overseas career was spent in France, playing four seasons in Ligue Magus. He spent parts of his first two seasons in France with Rouen, putting up 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 31 games. Aleardi would add 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 31 playoff games. His final two seasons in Ligue Magnus came with Grenoble, where he put 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points. He would add four goals and three assists for seven points in four playoff games.
