The Adirondack Thunder and Maine Mariners met for the second game of a home-and-home on Saturday Night as the Mariners hosted their annual Teddy Bear Toss Game. Both teams would get some reinforcements back as Max Andreev returned to the Maine lineup, and Alex Campbell, along with Chase McLane, rejoined the Thunder lineup. For the third straight game, Adirondack got on the board first as Grant Loven extended his goal streak to three games at the 1:25 mark of the opening period. At the 8:26 mark, Pierson Brandon and Zachary Jones dropped the gloves. Unfortunately for Jones, his fight straps weren’t secured, and his night came to an early end.Later in the period, fed the former Thunder James Marooney, who cleaned up a rebound to send the Teddy Bears Flying.

In the second, it would be a parade to the penalty box. Luke Reid would head to the box 58 seconds into the period, and then took another six seconds after getting out of the box, resulting in two of the four penalties in the middle frame. The tensions continued to rise as Jackson van de Leest and Shawn Element dropped the gloves at the 7:40 mark. Despite all the penalties, the Thunder held the Marierns to eight shots after giving up 15 in the opening frame.

In the third, it was the Thunder who got their chances, as they had three PP in the period, despite being outshot 16-6 in the final 20 minutes of play. However, one of those PP carried into overtime. The Thunder got only one shot in Overtime as Tag Bertuzzi fed Jeremy Hanzel for his second of the season and the OT winner. Adirondack has now won back-to-back games for the first time since November 9th and 14th vs Norfolk Admirals.

Stories of the Night

The biggest storyline of the night was Tyler Brennan, who made 38 saves for his third win of the season. His 38 saves tied a season-high for the Thunder with Jeremy Brodeur, as both goalies made 38 saves in Maine. It has continued to be a strong start to the season for the 22-year-old goaltender.

For the second straight night, the special teams would lead the Thunder to a win. The PK is now 9/9 in their last PK, as the Adirondack Thunder came into the night with the third-worst PK in the ECHL. After not scoring on the PP in six straight games, the Thunder now have PP goals in back-to-back games. They came into the night 14th on the PP.
