Earlier today, it was announced that the Greensboro Gargoyles have added goaltender Christian Propp to their roster.
Christian Propp is a 6’2 Canadian goaltender with a pair of ECHL seasons under his belt. Before making his professional debut, Propp dominated USports with Wilfrid Laurier University. In his best USports season, he went 11-13-0 with a .924 sv% and a 2.81 GAA. Prior to joining USports, Propp spent five seasons in the OHL, where he made appearances with Barrie, North Bay, Soo, and Kingston. Propp finally made his professional debut during the 2023-2024 season, where he played with both Wheeling and Rapid City. During his time in Rapid City, Propp was coached by none other than Gargoyles Head Coach Scott Burt. Propp spent two seasons with the Rush, appearing in 16 games last season. Last season, Propp went 5-6-3 with a .897 SV% and 3.39 GAA.
It is likely that Greensboro felt the need to add depth in the crease with the recent call-up of Ruslan Khazheyev. Propp and Basse are currently going to be in competition for games behind the new addition, Connor Ungar. With Khazheyev’s departure, Ungar is likely to see the majority of the starts. With Propp being a former player of Burt’s, I would anticipate that he has the edge in the battle for the second goalkeeper. It is still possible, and even likely, that Chicago sends down another goaltender, as they currently have three. Time will tell how the position battle shakes out; however, the Gargoyles are clearly not feeling complacent, which should be a comforting feeling to fans. The Gargoyles will be going head-to-head with Wheeling this weekend.
