The Norfolk Admirals have acquired goaltender Jaxon Castor from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for future considerations. Castor, 28, is 2-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .904SV% in two games this season with the Nailers. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Norfolk needed another experienced goaltender after Isaac Poulter was up in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose due to the injury to Connor Hellebuyck in Winnipeg. Norfolk will role with the tandem of Alex Worthington and Jaxon Castor for the foreseeable future.
The Phoenix, Arizona, native began his career with the Florida Everblades, where he had a 2.07 GAA and .912 SV% in two games; however, he didn’t earn a decision in either of those games. In his three seasons with the Nailers, he’s put up an 18-11-2 record with a 3.10 GAA and .887SV%. He went 5-3-1 with a 2.53 GAA, .919SV%, and one shutout in nine Kelly Cup Playoff games with Wheeling. Castor saw one game at the AHL level with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season giving up four goals on 30 shots in a game against the Laval Rocket.
Prior to going pro, Castor played five years at St. Cloud State University, four of which were at the NCAA level. During his first year at St.Cloud, they played at ACHA II level. In 42 NCAA games, he went 20-16-1 with a 2.38 GAA, .910SV%, and four shutouts. In 2023, he led the Huskies to an NCHC Championship and was named to the NCHC All-Tournament Team.
