The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that they’ve hired L.J. Scarpace as their assistant coach for the 2026-27 season. This comes after the Solar Bears announced that they will not be renewing the contract of Adam Dauda who served as Orlando’s assistant coach last year. Scarpace becomes the third assistant coach in this last three season for the Solar Bears.

The Dearborn, Michigan, native spent last season as an assistant coach at Michigan Tech . He also began his career in his home state as he was the Director Of Player Development for the University of Michigan from 2014-17. In 2017, he joined the Carolina Hurricanes where he spent two seasons as their video coach. Scarpace return to Michigan in 2019, where he joined the Detroit Red Wings. He spent five seasons as their video coach before being to the Video Coordinator role which he held for two seasons before joining Michigan Tech.

Prior to coaching, Scarpace played three seasons of college hockey as a goaltender. He spent his first two seasons at Western Michigan University where he played in just three games. Scarpace finished his collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where he went 6-2 with a 1.93 GAA and .914SV% in 15 games over the course of two seasons. The Wolves won the CCHA Championship in 2000 and made it to the Final Four in 2001.
