Just over a week after joining the Tulsa Oilers from the Savannah Ghost Pirates, forward Patrick Guay is heading overseas. The 23-year-old from Magog, Quebec, has signed with Västerås IK of HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second-highest professional league.
The move comes shortly after Tulsa acquired Guay on October 2 in a future considerations deal. At 5-foot-9 and 179 pounds, he was expected to bring speed and creativity to the Oilers’ lineup. Instead, he’ll start a new chapter in Europe with a Västerås club known for giving young North American scorers major roles.
Across 141 ECHL games with Savannah and Maine, he’s totaled 52 goals and 129 points, averaging just under a point per game. He’s also appeared in 33 AHL contests with Henderson, adding two goals and four assists. His breakout season came in 2022–23 when he recorded 52 points in 49 games for Savannah. That performance highlighted his quick release, sharp instincts, and ability to drive play in key situations.
Guay entered the 2025–26 campaign within reach of two significant career marks—50 goals and 100 assists in the ECHL. His move to Sweden pauses those milestones but opens the door to greater responsibility on international ice.
Tulsa loses a freshly acquired offensive option. The Oilers still hold his ECHL rights. They can pivot to internal candidates or explore future moves. Camp decisions and early waivers may cover the gap.
Guay’s decision underscores today’s fluid hockey paths. Opportunity can shift in a week. This one takes him to Västerås—and gives Tulsa a new puzzle to solve.
