Earlier today, the Reading Royals announced Justin Stevens as the team’s new Assistant Coach. Stevens is the 26th assistant coach in franchise history. He is joining the coaching staff under Head Coach and General Manager Anthony Peters.
Last season, Stevens was Assistant Coach and Assistant Director of Hockey Operations in the SPHL for the Pensacola Ice Flyers. With Stevens as assistant coach, the Ice Flyers earned the fifth-highest regular-season point total and reached the President’s Cup Playoffs.
Before coaching the Ice Flyers, Stevens spent eight years coaching at the USports level. Stevens spent his first two seasons as the assistant coach at the University of Guelph. After his first two seasons coaching, Stevens was named the associate head coach of the Gryphons for the next four seasons. After six seasons coaching the Gryphons, Stevens became the associate head coach at the University of Ottawa for two seasons.
The Brantford, Ontario, native started his hockey career playing in the MWJHL with the Brantford Golden Eagles. He played in 41 regular season games and three playoff games, recording one goal, four assists, and 72 penalty minutes. Stevens then went on to play three seasons in the OJHL. During his three seasons in the OJHL he played with the Hamilton Red Wings and Burlington Cougars. He played in 73 regular season games and three playoff games with the Red Wings, recording two goals and 24 assists. During his time with the Cougars, he recorded one goal and 13 assists in 22 games. He would add six assists in twelve playoff games with the Cougars.
After his time in the OJHL, Stevens played two seasons in the USHL. During his time playing the USHL he played with the Youngstown Phantoms. In 49 games, he recorded two goals, four assists, and 120 penalty minutes. After playing with the Phantoms, Stevens spent one season playing in the CCHL with the Pembroke Lumber Kings. He recorded four goals and 20 assists for 24 points in 43 games. Stevens would add three goals and three assists in twelve playoff games with the Lumber Kings. NCAA & USports Career
Following time playing in the CCHL, Stevens decided to spend two seasons playing NCAA Division I hockey at Mercyhurst University. In 26 games with the Lakers, he recorded three assists and 24 penalty minutes.
After returning to Ontario, Justin Stevens attended Carleton University, where he spent three seasons playing at the USports Level. In 43 games with the Ravens, he recorded one goal and twelve assists. After playing at the USports level, Stevens spent one season playing in the SPHL with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. Stevens played in seven games with the Yard Dawgs, recording one goal and two assists.
