ECHL: Reading Royals Sign Luke Reid and Austin Mourar

Luke Reid

Reid, 25, has spent the past two seasons with the Adirondack Thunder, where he had four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 66 games, while playing in two games during the 2026 Kelly Cup Playoffs. He also saw six games in the AHL with the Utica Comets last season, where he had two assists. I would expect Reid to see top-pairing minutes next season with Reading.

Prior to going pro, the Warman, Saskatchewan, native spent two seasons in the USHL with the Chicago Steel, where he put up four goals and 34 assists for 38 points in 105 games. He would add three assists in 11 games during the 2019 playoffs. Reid would then head to the NCAA, where he spent five years at the University of New Hampshire. Over the course of his five seasons with the Wildcats, he had eight goals and 41 assists for 49 points in 162 games.

Austin Mourar

Mourar, 26, spent last season overseas in France with Courchevel-Méribel-Pralognan, where he had five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 30 games. He would add a goal and an assist in eight relegation games. Mourar found the back of the net in his only French Cup Game. He has also spent the last two years as a coach and instructor within the Reading Royals Youth Hockey Association.

“I am excited for the opportunity to be close to home as a Royal this upcoming season,” stated Mourar. “It means a lot to be play at the level many of the youth hockey players I help instruct in the RRYHA program strive to reach.”

Prior to playing overseas, the Spring City, Pennsylvania, native played four years at Hobert College. In 118 games with the Statesmen, he put up 31 goals and 43 assists for 74 points. The Statesmen won three straight National Championships from 2023 to 2025. Mourar was named the Tournament MVP in 2024 and was named to the All-Tournament Team in 2024 and 2025.
