The South Carolina Stingrays continued reshaping their roster for the 2026-27 season by signing veteran forward Alex Dostie.

The 29-year-old returns to North America after spending the last five seasons playing professionally in Europe, bringing nearly a decade of professional experience to South Carolina.

Returning from Europe

Dostie most recently suited up for the Bietigheim Steelers in Germany’s DEL2. He recorded three goals and two assists in seven regular-season games before adding two goals and four assists in 13 playoff contests.

Before his stint in Germany, Dostie spent the 2024-25 season with JYP Jyväskylä in Finland’s top professional league, finishing with eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points in 54 games.

He split his first three European seasons between Stjernen Hockey, Vålerenga Ishockey, and HC Innsbruck. Across 71 games in Norway’s top league, he accumulated 34 goals and 61 assists for 95 points while posting a plus-34 rating. During the 2022-23 season, Dostie also led Norway’s top league in assists.

Previous Success in North America

Before heading overseas, Dostie spent four professional seasons in the AHL and ECHL after being selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.

He appeared in 138 regular-season games with the San Diego Gulls, recording 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points. Dostie also made his professional debut during the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs.

In the ECHL, he was highly productive during brief stops with the Utah Grizzlies and Tulsa Oilers, totaling 13 points in just 10 regular-season games. He added an impressive 24 points in 20 Kelly Cup Playoff games with Tulsa during the 2019 postseason.

Junior Career

Before turning professional, Dostie played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Gatineau Olympiques and Charlottetown Islanders.

He eclipsed the 70-point mark during the 2015-16 season with Gatineau before being traded to Charlottetown during his final junior campaign. In 2016-17, he helped the Islanders reach the QMJHL semifinals while contributing 16 points in 13 playoff games.

Veteran Addition Up Front

Dostie brings experience from the AHL, ECHL, and several of Europe’s top professional leagues to South Carolina. His offensive production, postseason experience, and veteran leadership add another proven option to the Stingrays’ forward group as they continue building their roster for the 2026-27 season.
