Trois-Rivières Lions forward Tommy Cormier is heading overseas to Slovakia to join HC Presov after spending parts of his first two seasons with the Lions. Cormier, 22, had two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in 30 games this season. In his rookie year with the Trois-Rivières, he had 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points in 71 games. Cormier would add a goal and an assist in 14 Kelly Cup Playoff games. He becomes the third player the Lions have lost this month as Tyler Hylland announced his retirement and Andrew Coxhead headed overseas . Tommy’s brother, Xavier Cormier, signed overseas in Slovakia over the Summer.
Prior to going pro, the Pont-Rouge, Quebec, native spent parts of four seasons in the QMJHL. During his first year in the Q, he spent 11 games with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. He would spend the following three seasons with the Victoriaville Tigres, where he put up 82 goals and 116 assists for 198 points in 160 games. Cormier would add six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 18 QMJHL playoff games. He began his career in the QMAAA with the Séminaire St-Francis Blizzard. During the 2019-20 season, he would put up 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points in 38 games and be named the QMAAA Most Underrated Player. Cormier would add four goals and five assists for nine points during the 2019 Playoffs.
