Good news, everyone! We are just a few short weeks away from puck drop on the 2025–26 NHL season. One of the crucial steps in the process of getting ready for more hockey is the opening of training camp. The Edmonton Oilers have broken the suspense by announcing the training camp roster for this September on Tuesday afternoon.

In all, 55 players will be attending camp with testing and media availability with select members of the organization beginning on Wednesday morning.

Who will be at Edmonton Oilers training camp?

It will be a full slate of attendees getting a chance to spend some time with the NHL organization and a couple of the best players in the world. Prospects from all levels of the organization, excluding those playing in Europe, will be present. And with an influx of youth and potential on its way to the Bakersfield Condors this season, plenty of battles will be fought in training camp for placement within Edmonton’s depth chart.

Let’s dive in to the full list of all 55 players attending training camp!

Plenty of new faces will be making their first appearance at Oilers training camp. Free agent signings like Quinn Hutson, Viljami Marjala, David Tomasek, and Josh Samanski are all looking to make good on their short-term prove-it deals they signed with the team. With a strong performance on the weekend at the Next Gen Showcase, Hutson and Marjala could be dark horse candidates to make the opening night roster. It will also be a unique experience for recent draft picks Tommy Lafreniere and David Lewandowski, who will spend a few days with the team before likely being sent back to their respective WHL clubs in the first round of cuts.

Defenders

Player 2024–25 Team Acquired
Beau Akey Barrie Colts (OHL) 2023 Draft (Second round)
Evan Bouchard Edmonton Oilers 2018 Draft (First round)
Josh Brown Bakersfield Condors (AHL) FA Signing (July 1, 2024)

Brett Kulak Edmonton Oilers Trade (March 21, 2022)
Atro Leppanen Sport (Liiga) FA Signing (April 13, 2025)
Mason Millman Providence Bruins (AHL) AHL Signing (August 7, 2025)
Darnell Nurse Edmonton Oilers 2013 Draft (First round)
Luke Prokop Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) AHL Signing (August 12, 2025)
Alec Regula Providence Bruins (AHL, 2023–24) Waivers (December 10, 2024)
Troy Stecher Edmonton Oilers Trade (March 6, 2024)
Riley Stillman Chicago Wolves (AHL) FA Signing (July 1, 2025)
Jake Walman Edmonton Oilers/San Jose Sharks Trade (March 6, 2025)

The defensive group is mostly set and we shouldn’t expect many surprises. However, the leading scorer of the Liiga in Finland signed with the Oilers back in April and he could be a wild card. Atro Leppanen may provide another offensive punch from the back end and could beat out players like Ty Emberson or Troy Stecher for an opening night start.

Goaltending

Player 2024–25 Team Acquired
Nathaniel Day Flint Firebirds (OHL) 2023 Draft (Sixth round)
Samuel Jonsson BIK Karlskoga (HA) 2022 Draft (Fifth round)
Calvin Pickard Edmonton Oilers FA Signing (July 17, 2022)
Stuart Skinner Edmonton Oilers 2017 Draft (Third round)
Matt Tomkins Syracuse Crunch (AHL) FA Signing (July 1, 2025)
Connor Ungar Fort Wayne Comets (ECHL) FA Signing (March 18, 2024)

We know what the end result of the NHL goalie battle will be. But where it gets interesting is for the rest of the depth. Nathaniel Day and Samuel Jonsson will be joining the AHL or ECHL teams this season as they begin their North American professional careers. Both are fairly promising goaltending prospects, with Jonsson having won goalie of the year in the HockeyAllsvenskan last season and Day having an incredibly impressive three-game debut late last season. They will be battling for ice time in either the AHL or ECHL to take top spot in Edmonton’s goalie prospect pipeline.
