Stuart Skinner has been criticized plenty for his play in net for the Oilers, but now, he's shared his lofty goals and expectations ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Edmonton Oilers have fallen in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, and one of the reasons that most believe they've come up short is their goaltending.
In their last three post-season runs, goaltender Stuart Skinner has posted a save percentage under .901 in all three, with this past season being his worst, as the team overcame his struggles of an .889 save percentage to get to Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals.
At 26-years of age, the Edmonton native hasn't let his struggles get him down however, as he has now revealed the lofty goals he's set for himself ahead of the new season, goals that include playing for Team Canada and winning the Stanley Cup.
'For my goals this year, of course I wanna set the bar high. I wanna be the goalie for Team Canada at the Olympics, I wanna be able to get back to the Stanley Cup & finish the job.'
Obviously, given his struggles, it's no surprise that he was met with plenty of ridicule on social media, but given how important confidence is as a goaltender, it's the right mindset to have to push yourself for these types of goals.
Skinner will have a long way to go earning a spot on Canada's Olympic Team after failing to be named to the initial camp roster.
Only time will tell if Skinner can become good enough to achieve any of them, but with the Oilers making back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals and only Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill and Sam Montembeault ahead of him, both goals are potentially achievable if he can make some major improvements to his game.
