In preparation for free agency opening on Wednesday, July 1st, the Edmonton Oilers had a few pending restricted free agents left to decide on. Will they qualify them to retain their rights? Or will they let them walk and become free agents? We have our answer.

Edmonton had six pending RFAs to sign ahead of the deadline this week. And they have issued qualifying offers to four of them.

Defender Spencer Stastney and forwards Colton Dach, Owen Michaels, and Roby Jarventie have all been issued qualifying offers. While forwards Josh Bloom and Matvey Petrov have been left unqualified and will become free agents.

Who are the players the Oilers qualified?

We are going to be most familiar with the two pending RFAs that were closer to lineup regulars after their acquisition.

Stastney was acquired from the Nashville Predators back in December and played 36 regular-season games afterwards. He scored one goal while averaging slightly above 16 minutes of ice time per game. He regularly occupied a third-pairing role and was viewed fondly by the coaching staff for his performance.

Dach was acquired at the trade deadline along with Jason Dickinson. Although Dach’s games were limited, he only appeared in eight regular-season games, he made an immediate impact with his engagement and playstyle. Dach tallied two goals and two assists in the regular season with about 10 minutes of ice time per game.

The Oilers will now retain Jarventie’s rights despite his signing in the Swiss National League. This is the second straight offseason that he signed in Europe. Last year, he ultimately re-signed with Edmonton closer to the start of the season. After dealing with an injury-plagued 2024–25 season, Jarventie was a stand-out player with the Bakersfield Condors last season, recording 47 points in 61 games. He earned a call-up to the NHL and appeared in three games late in the season.

Michaels was signed out of college at the tail end of the 2025–26 season. The one-year deal he agreed to lasted just a couple of months, and this offseason he is set to re-sign with the organization. Michaels did not appear in any games, but he was practicing with the Oilers throughout April.

Who have the Oilers left unqualified?

The remaining two pending RFAs have been left unqualified and will enter free agency. The first is Bloom. He was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks back in March in exchange for Jayden Grubbe. After the trade, Bloom scored two points in three games with the Condors while tallying nine points in 11 regular-season games with the Fort Wayne Comets of the ECHL. He also contributed five points in 13 playoff games with the Comets.

Petrov was a sixth-round pick of the Oilers back in 2021. Once touted as a potential depth scorer working his way up through the organization, his development stalled as he transitioned into the professional game. Petrov played in 36 games with the Condors last season, scoring five goals with 12 total points.
