Seasons in all leagues are now underway around the world. The Oilers have a particularly deep prospect pool in goaltending with five goaltenders signed to their affiliates for the 2025–2026 season. It was also a positive past week for their AHL and ECHL affiliates as both now enter Wednesday on a win streak.
Lets take a look at the players in the system.
Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues, to go along with a feature on one standout prospect in Edmonton’s system. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games and was born in 2001 or earlier.
Little is often expected of 7th round picks, but the Oilers have a trend of identifying some late rounders that could have potential at the NHL level, from Vincent Desharnais in 2016, to William Nicholl in 2024, and now Aidan Park in 2025.
The 6’01 forward plays a responsible two-way forward game who can change the pace of any game in any of the three zones. His game is highlighted by strong physicality, a high compete level, and a capable enough senses plus shooting combo to make him an offensive threat.
Playing his draft plus one year in Green Bay last season boosted his stock, where he was one of the most impressive performers in the USHL, which finally got him on the radar of NHL scouts. Now the Shattuck St. Mary’s alumnus has proven he can adjust to the NCAA game with the University of Michigan.
His physicality allows him to get to the grittier areas, absorb contact well, and establish favourable body positioning and leverage on opponents. This makes him a threat to force opponents into awkward spots, and turn over pucks.
This physicality blends nicely with his compete level as he displays a high-end motor, relentless no-shift off mentality, high play engagement and suffocating defensive pressure exertion. Look for his hustle in transition, and defensive responsibility to shine as he continues his college career.
Senses-wise, Park continues to display notable defensive instincts, a consistent active stick, and quality risk assessment that allows him to mitigate high danger plays both on the backcheck and in the zone. He also shows strong puck protection mechanics that allow him to thrive as a play supporter.
The 2006-born forward also has a good sense of timing and play reading which has allowed him to thrive in both the USHL, and will continue to do so at the NCAA level.
Shooting-wise, the Oilers draftee possesses a quick release, good frequency, and notable deception within his release that makes his shot slightly unpredictable for goaltenders across the league.
The main areas of concern for Park include his skating (posture, lack of explosiveness, lateral acceleration, and edge work), along with puck skills, particularly he stands as a below-average handler, and has limitations around control, pass receptions, and lane manipulation.
Overall, he struggles as a puck handler when the game has a higher pace, and in offensive transition.
